The Shiny Charm
Pokemon Shiny Charm Shiny Pokémon Hunting

a Key Item introduced in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. It increases the chance of encountering Shiny Pokémon.

The Shiny Charm increases the chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon, both in the wild, and via breeding. This is done by generating two extra personality values to attempt to find one that is Shiny, effectively resulting in a tripled chance to find Shiny Pokémon compared to the base chance; from 1/8192 to approximately 3/8192 (roughly 1/2731). This stacks with most other modifiers which increase the Shiny encounter rate, such as the Masuda method. It has no effect on Pokémon obtained via NPCs from in-game trades, gifts, or from Event Pokémon obtained via Mystery Gift.

Generation VI to VII
Starting in Generation VI, the base encounter rate for Shiny Pokémon was increased from 1/8192 to 1/4096. As such, the Shiny Charm's two extra rerolls now increase the chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon from 1/4096 to approximately 3/4096 (roughly 1/1365).

Generation VIII
In Pokémon Sword and Shield the following types of encounters are unaffected by the Shiny Charm:

The Legendary giants
Motostoke Gym Pokémon
Revived fossil Pokémon
Curry encounters
Pokémon found in Pokémon Dens
Regina's in-game trade Pokémon
Scripted encounters such as the Glimwood Tangle Impidimp.
Due to a bug, when breeding, if any personality value rerolls are applied, (such as the additional shiny rolls provided via the Masuda method or Shiny Charm), the initial roll to generate a personality value is skipped.[3][4]

The result is that when breeding using the Shiny Charm alone, it only provides 2 total rolls for the personality value, meaning there is approximately a 2/4096 (equal to 1/2048) chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon. This is a reduction from prior generations where the initial roll and both rerolls are accounted for, which would provide a shiny rate of 3/4096, (approximately 1/1365).

However, in Generation VIII, due to the Masuda method providing one more reroll than in previous generations, the chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon when using both the Shiny Charm and Masuda method is unchanged, providing 8 total rolls, (instead of the intended 9), for a Shiny rate of 8/4096 (equal to 1/512) as usual.

In Dynamax Adventures, Pokémon normally have a 1/300 chance of being Shiny at the end of the adventure, which the Shiny Charm's two extra rerolls effectively boosts to approximately 1/100.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl only, the Shiny Charm only affects breeding.

Generation IX
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet the following types of encounters are unaffected by the Shiny Charm:

Pokémon found in Tera Raid Battles
Wild Tera Pokémon
Other non-Tera fixed symbol encounters (also referred to as Wanderers).

Masuda method - 6IV Ditto

Shiny 6iv Ditto Lootdelivered How to get Shiny Pokémon

Use a Ditto from Japan to breed your next Shiny Pokémon Without a shiny charm, a foreign ditto makes it a 1/683 chance. With the shiny charm and a foreign ditto it is 1/512.
While the standard encounter rate for a Shiny Pokémon (either in the wild or by breeding) is 1/8192 from Generation II to Generation V and 1/4096 in Generation VI onwards, the Masuda method multiplies this rate by 5 (to 5/8192 or about 1/1638) in Generation IV, by 6 (to 6/8192 or about 1/1365) in Generation V, and by 6 (to 6/4096, or 1/683) from Generation VI onwards.

To be exact, performing the Masuda Method will increase your egg shiny odds from 1/4096 to 3/2048 without the shiny charm.

With the shiny charm, your Masuda Method shiny odds are increased from 1/1365.33 to 1/512. These are amazing odds, and players should definitely consider getting the Shiny Charm before performing the Masuda Method.

If you need a Shiny Ditto from Japan to perform your own Masuda Method check out this sameday service we offer!

Sandwiches (Gen IX Scarlet and Violet)
Players can make sandwiches at the Pokémon Picnic that can increase the chances of encountering Shiny Pokémon if the sandwich has the "Sparkling Power" effect on it, as it adds 1-3 rolls to the shiny Pokémon table. The sandwiches stack with other effects. A level 1 sparking sandwich increases the rate to 1 in 2048, a level 2 increases it to 1 in 1365 and a level 3 increases it to 1 in 1024. With a Shiny Charm added with the sandwich, the rates would further increase to 1 in 1024, 819 and 683 respectively.

As each power also has a specific typing, players must also use the according ingredients to do so; e.g to shiny hunt Fighting-type Pokémon, the player would use a hamburger, onion, avocado, tomato, two servings of pickles and two Herba Mystica of their liking without having any of the ingredients fall off.

Due to the auto-battle feature introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the player's Pokémon will not attack nearby shiny Pokémon. However, there are no cues to indicate if a shiny Pokémon does appear.

A good way to shiny hunt in the open world is to set up Picnics, as these force a complete wipe of the current Pokémon on the screen and generates new ones when the picnic ends. If this is not available, simply circle around the area, letting Pokémon despawn to allow the game to load new ones. If the area has Pokémon groups, it is important not to despawn more than four Pokémon at a time if the hunted Pokémon is not of that type, as to prevent unnecessary groups from spawning in.
